Spectacular antique Victorian to early Edwardian era Black Forest style hand carved 11" tall Holy water font in the form of a Medieval tower or tomb canopy with cupola, white opaline glass font and hand painted portrait miniature of Christ & thorn crown on porcelain! Like something you might see a the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, this one in the style of a medieval tomb canopy or possibly even a water well with the cobblestone and upper cupola, all overgrown with vines & foliage. Steps lead up to the white opaline glass font, the hand painted portrait of Christ just above. Truly amazing, the entire piece save for the hinged doors and portrait backing, carved from one solid block of wood. Painstakingly sculpted into the amazing work of art you see now. This one dates from the late Victorian to early Edwardian era and the condition is remarkable, obviously cared for and treasured over the years. One of a kind, don’t miss it.
