Absolute age to this one, no question. It is c.1600s, an oil painting on thick wood plaque and set into its original wood frame with broad brass facing. I feel like a few hours to days searching through important people of the Louis XIV era might help find an identification, but I have not done so. I have a couple more of these very early ones, 17th century or before, and the paper backing often had identification and a very small biography. I can't help but think that remainder of a paper backing holds some clues, but I haven't the museum equipment necessary to pull any writing or indentations of same that might remain. I have no doubt at all of the age, however. Splendid and rare.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, and with such great appeal. Displays beautifully, and oil on wood is one of the most stable of all methods, should certainly look just like this in another 400 years. Full measurements noted on the photos.
