French Restauration, Napoleon has been removed and there is an effort to return to the Royal reign of Kings in France. The date, about c.1815-25, and this young woman poses for a landscape portrait which shows perhaps her return to the childhood chateau of her family, likely overtaken by populists during the time of Napoleon. Her hair and her modified First Empire gown put her into those years, as well. A knowledge of history is all we have to go by for this young beauty and her story. There is, alas, no identification nor artist's signature. There remains the old tissue which sealed her image and its slightly convex cover glass, and the old original frame, elegant quality in its time. Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone recognized the chateau, at least.

Very good to excellent condition throughout. The gouache on wafer painting is not just a portrait but also a landscape, which is quite rare. No warp, no loss, no damage nor hairline. Cover glass is original, as is the fine quality early 1800s dore bronze frame which is, itself, a valuable antique of 200 years in age. Easel back or hanging loop, and large at 3.5" in diameter. Magnificent piece from my collection of decades.
