A splendid portrait miniature in oil paint on copper plaque, and the late 1700s frame and image tell us it was likely done in his lifetime. Not directly, I think. I'm certain there was a great market for images like this of Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson (1758 - 1805). Nicely done, it has no signature and we have to think of it as one of many, yet it's early. Even though it's an oil painting, it has a typical convex polished glass cover and has been protected all these 200 or more years. I found him in France.
Very good to excellent for age and type, not a bit of oil paint gone, having been protected under glass and apparently well-cherished. The typical Georgian to c.1820s English frame and the bale has pressed brass roses. One small nip to one corner of the frame, noted with 'x' for your review. Measurements are noted on the photos.
