A beautiful landscape painting in oil and protected un Der convex cover glass, mounted on top of this beautiful burl wood lathe-turned box - a table box, bonbon, or snuff box, souvenir. I'd say Napoleon III or possibly a little later, c. 1920, it's worked with elegance from the box itself to the landscape painting mounted up top. The people in the painting are dressed in 18th century clothing/fashion, but I'm quite sure this is not that old. However, it is the 3" and taller size typical of 18th century. Very appealing! Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, I can see a little disruption to the painting surface, commensurate with age, one bare tiny spot at about the 6-7 o'clock position. The old burl wood is without flaw.
