Such a beauty, this! A stunning sarcophagus form casket, typical of the late 1700s to earliest 1800s, French Empire influence, contrasting lemon wood and darker contrasting marquetry veneers and edge trim, cast metal feet and a working lock with original key. Pretty enough displayed closed, but when you open it, you find a beautifully preserved sewing tools tray and pad and mirror. Lift the tray and you'll see it is equipped with a music box, as well. You'll have a difficult time deciding if it'll be displayed open or closed, frankly. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The casket is in fine condition, one tiny restoration of the thin edge at back right of lid (marked with x for review), no other flaws, no warp. Working lock with key. Interior tray in nice form, silk velvet and filled with 3 mother of pearl silk winders, original scissors, stiletto, needle case and thimble, and a replacement tweezer with ear wax spoon on one end. There is a tiny cut pair of photos tucked into the 4th silk winder recess, which might give indication who owned it some 40 years or so after the initial owner. From the Palais Royal boutiques of the Old Palace of Cardinale Richelieu, it is a treasure!  As to the music box, it is original to the box, has a key wind mechanism open to the bottom of box, and we do not have a key to fit. I am unable to tell if the music box works, though it looks complete, so will just say it may or may not and might need cleaning (seems quite dusty, and usually there would be a protective cover over the music box). Not guaranteed to work, but likely not much necessary to get it to do so.
