Butterflies and garden flowers are so elegantly hand applied in gold enamel and raised gold enamel on this unusual teal colored petit ewer. This size carafe is a "carafon", likely to have originally had a stopper, and used at each place setting on Noble tables as a water or sometimes a wine service for each person. For this one, art glass, Napoleon III or Victorian era finery, likely St. Louis was the maker but it is, like most, unsigned.
Very good condition for age and type, it will be for display and not for use because there is a hairline at the top of the handle (see x on photos). Beyond that one imperfection, this is just a dream piece, the scene and gold work is exceptionally fine, no chip to the old carafon, slight rub to bottom from table use. RARE color!
