While this hails from the Napoleon III era when Napoleonic Empire decorative motif was again in high fashion, c.1850-1870, or perhaps slightly later, it is an elegant antique one might expect to see on Napoleon's desk in his office preserved at Malmaison. Stunning fine bas relief appliqués repeat Napoleonic or Empire chimera, eagle, swans and trims. I believe the wood used is mahogany, though I admit I am not an expert in wood. The stand is old but in fine form, and not a single appliqué is missing or damaged. Large in size, you'll want it on your desk with a few inkwells or Empire pens (sold separately). Very good to excellent condition throughout. No chips even Ono corners of the old wood, and all appliqués are finest quality and little works of sculptor's art. Not a single bit of the appliqué has gone missing over time. Ready to hold your stationery, incoming or outgoing mail - or guest towels in a powder room. Get creative. It's a fabulous piece!
