Rare antique French Napoleon III or Victorian era 11 5/8" documents or hand fan casket, an elegant box with birdseye maple veneers, brass strip & kingwood inlays, boulle style cartouche, original silk interior lining and working lock & key! The shape & size definitely lean toward an elegant hand fan casket though it could just as easily work for a rolled scroll or document, of course. Quite unique and extravagant, if it indeed did hold an antique hand fan, the fan would surely have been something to see! Rare and in in superb condition!
Very good to excellent condition! A few faint surface marks or scratches but I see no missing or damaged veneers other that a tiny imperfection or two (everything visible in the clear, enlarged images. See pictures for all measurements.
