The old 18k gold trimmed round crystal perfume flacon, flask, bottle is a rarer and sweet inclusion in this c.1820s French Palais Royal sewing box, as so many with them have been lost through the centuries, sold off on its own to perfume collectors. It's always fun to find these sewing sets, boxes as close to original as possible. This one even still has a working key for the lock. It would have once had a padded silk protector to fit there on top of the tools and to protect both them and the mirror which remains in its place within the lid. Surrounded by the old chenille, it is the original mirror, unbroken. The mother of pearl needle case is trimmed out in 18k gold, as well. The box is dainty, compared to some, at 6 3/8" x 4 1/2" and 2 3/4" tall, closed. Isn't it just gorgeous. Perfume flacon on its own would bring half our price on this one. Keep that in mind.
Very good to excellent for advanced age and type. There is a loss to one lobe of one of the original mother of pearl silk winders, visible in our photos. The inner lip of the needle case, marked for your review in our photos - very small. Scissors are very early steel, the kind that bring $400 range sold separately. We don't break original sets up. We might not get as much as the "part it out" minded do, but we think if a set makes it this long together, far be it from us to split it all up. I think we're more into conservation of these fine antiques. We hope you are, as well.
