Antique French Grand Tour souvenir, most likely. The portrait miniature is hand painted, and is a very nice copy after Vigee LeBrun painting of Marie-Antoinette. Set into a French Empire revival dore bronze frame with appliqué and wood mat, it would have been a thrill to the traveler who had just experienced the Louvre, Versaille, etc. Easel and hanging loop back, the frame is valuable on its own. The elaborate crest and appliqué hail back to the era of splendor that was the French Empire under Napoleon, but the piece is c.1850-70 in age. Original woven cloth backing.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. A very nicely done Grand Tour copy of an iconic portrait of Marie-Antoinette by Vigee LeBrun, the miniature is set nicely in a fine French frame. No damage to report. Age to the piece, but nothing that reduces value or enjoyment. The frame body is 4" square, plus the added height of the crest. Mat is wood (my favorite). And aperture is 2.25" in diameter.
