Brilliantly arranged blond locks, often a child's light coloration in these old ones, and the style is quite French, as well. Yes, yet another of our amazing collection of antique mourning jewelry (slowly working through crates of antique jewelry so please keep coming back to see more as we list). This is an early Victorian all original mourning brooch, one made with the usual addition of a locket with hair art, and an elegant piece of jewelry if you're not the least squeemish over such things. Alas, most of these bits of the past are now no more than poignent collections with a little glimpse at another time, another aesthetic and custom. This one is a beautiful example, however, and one to please even the most sophisticated collector. Nice large size and beautifully decorated black enamel and repousee quatrefoil border on the piece make it a real treasure.
Very good condition for its age, tested on MIZAR M24 at 12K gold, so certainly a fine quality piece. A superb piece, no losses in the enamel and the top side is pristine, but the back has a tiny hole where something has been removed, perhaps a watch hook or hinged bale, as you can see in our images.
