There are 2 kinds of portrait miniatures, really. The ones that are direct portraits of individuals, living persons in their own time, and there are the old Grand Tour variety, done after (aprés) famous works of art or historical figures with intent to sell as souvenirs. This is one of the latter. It is beautifully presented and preserved, the rich burled wood and d'ore (Dore) bronze mat giving it added appeal.
The painting is of nice quality and hasn't a flaw to note. Cover glass is intact. Measurements noted on photos, but it is 5.75" square, basically. These remain very popular since they're not one of a kind works but are affordable to collect. Doll house and doll collectors love them as wall art, too. I've bought this and another which is shown in the final image. They'll be sold separately, but are lovely if you wish to have both, too. In this offering you are only buying one.
