Beautifully preserved, and extra large at 14" tall, this is a memento of an entire family. Each in the variety of hair colors represents another person in the family, and we know it was completed in 1877. Though we don't know the family, one can see the light blond of early childhood, brunettes of adulthood, some with streaks of gray, and some very gray, not in white/gray, you know that at least 3 generations contributed. This art, an industry of France in the 1800s and before, also did memorial hair art from shorn locks of a departed loved one. Mourning items, most often. It's refreshing to see one that just is a family's memento of love and generations. Almost never this large, this one is in excellent condition, too. The old original deep bombe glass is undamaged. The frame remains very nice. The backing has been opened so glass could be cleaned, and if you see a loose lock in my photos, know that after photos, Rick opened it again to re-set those couple of loose locks.

Very good to excellent condition throughout on this one. So rare to find one of this size, and also one that combines an entire several-generations' locks. Dated 1877. Lots of photos. The deep bombe glass is touch to capture without glares. Full measurements noted on the photos.
