Antique Victorian era Black Forest hand carved centerpiece, a large goat figure with foliate surroundings holding a shimmering wheel cut crystal dish on top and as attractive as can be! The carved base a huge stand for a centerpiece, the carving is up to 10 3/8" wide and the piece stands a total of 15 3/8" tall with oval crystal bowl. The original dish it would have held would likely have been Bohemian or French wheel-engraved clear glass, now it's been replaced with this thick, overly heavy cut crystal bowl that looks absolutely gorgeous. The base dates to the Victorian era and often those older pieces have been broken somewhere in time which is the case with this one but, as you can see, the figure and most of the carved base are superb. Expertly hand carved from what appears to be one large, solid block of likely Lindenwood and its size alone made it impossible to pass by. Fabulous, rare pastoral figure and now, with the stunning cut crystal dish perched on top, a visual experience to behold.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, this one is remarkable anatomically, and the goat figure is a full 8 3/4" longest, 5" tall to shoulder. That impossibly perfect tail and beard, those legs - no loss. Part of one ear has been chipped away, however. The other chip is larger - one of the up-arching arm/branches which would nest the missing bowl. Those are each visible and "x" marked on our photos. RARE large centerpiece! The crystal dish is 10.5" x 6 5/8" and 5 1/4" deep, weighs 5 lbs, 14oz alone (entire piece is 9 lbs, 2oz). All other measurements are noted in the images.
