Well, this is a huge poofy pillow, possibly made up for someone who loved to relax sitting up in bed. The old needlepoint used as a topper is just fabulous! Dogs, figural, a passionate story of love and perhaps betrayal. The old panel ha been saved well, but right now it's in need of a little bit of repair - needle and thread stuff, and I've detailed what that area looks like. These old ones are sometimes a little fragile for a lot of use and much prefer to be visual richness on display and not be slouched into for a tv night. BUT, that said, it is nicely crafted with vintage velvet in a neutral gold-ish tan that is piped and zippered. The pillow is quite huge, as you can see in comparison to others on my large sofa in that final photo. A full 33"+ across the bottom, tapers a bit to 27" across the top and it is over 21" top to bottom, and is lush and thick with stuffing - 10" in depth. It's a down/feather fill, I believe. Mooshey but also holds a crease and is heavy. Had I made this one, I'd have receded it to a rectangle and used a different trim, but it does look pretty. I'm sure the shape was to keep that 2nd dog to far left, in the area where it needs a little needlework. I might take the time to do it, but won't promise it. There are so many beautiful things here to get listed for you. But it's simple easy work and you can do it!
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. HUGE fine and early needlepoints and minuscule petit point work on this wool and silk panel. French, c.1750-1830, and a strong warp canvas but it's had a bit too much leaning upon and as noted above, needs an hour and a needle and thread to bring it back to superb. I pulled it a little to get that one photo to show it more opened at the splits. They go together nicely for repair. The velvet is newer - perhaps 1980s, I'd say, and is in very nice condition. I do not think it is silk velvet, but I have not tested. The trim, backing, interior feather/down pillow are all fine, and it hasn't a bit of a scent to it. Lovely to display and to use.
