Really, nothing is so appealing as a finely crafted 19th century French ebeniste's (ebaniste's) casket or box, coffret. This one is particularly incredible with more marquetry work than any I've ever had, pretty certain. A play of contrasting hardwoods, stone, mother of pearl - trimmed out with a brightly polished brass pencil edging. Every eye will turn to this Napoleon III era (1850-70s) or Victorian era masterpiece! Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, while I admit to being nearly blinded by its inherent beauty, I have not found a single bit of loss or lift to the remarkable marquetry on this one. It would have begun life as a glove box, plain interior and drop front suggests it was meant for a gentleman. A working lock but we don't have a key to fit at listing time. Should we locate one, we'll annotate our listing and price. The lock pin does keep it closed just fine, however. Nice hardware, hinge, and fully intact brass pencil edging, too. Such a beauty!
