An exceptional find, a circa 1750-70s French gentleman of the nobility, powdered wig with ponytail and wide black bow at nape of neck. Dignified portrait and the frame exceeds the quality of almost all portrait miniatures of the era. Begs for ID, though we have none, and the artist, so capable as to capture his unique features in a face just 5/8" from chin to hairline. Full measurements are noted on our photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Nearly 300 years old, the painting has no damage, no warp, no hairlines or cracks, chips. Protected beneath original cover glass and in original and magnificent dore bronze frame, presents as a standout for any collection. Paper label appears on back, referencing 'student of Giroux', which would lead one to think of Alphonse Giroux, but that is 19th century and later than this gentleman's portrait. I do not know which 18th century Giroux it references. More research needed!
