The 19th century elegant little carved figures, Swiss Black Forest works of sculpture that seem unimaginable to have carved, and imagine how rare to find ones that remain fully intact like this one. Most often we find thread spools, both men and women's figures. We don't find them often! This one, combination of spool there at the base and the lift-off figural lid with needle case pillar, is exceptionally rare. Those who collect sewing antiques will realize how rare. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. The arms are slender as toothpicks, yet remain intact. One hand is drilled and would hold a sewing needle at the ready. Narrowed base would be spooled with sewing thread, and the top lifts to reveal it to be a rare needle case combination. The carving is impossibly delicate - a true museum piece. The Gothic cathedral-accented pillar is lined with crimson or claret red velvet. There are no losses nor breaks. RAREST of all of these we've ever found. Don't miss it!
