These tiny and early portrait miniatures are so fascinating. Here is this spectacularly coiffed and fashioned woman in her maturity, c.1750-70s, with a 1/2" face so perfectly captured by the artist, we can even see she has a tiny post-menopausal trace of a mid-life mustache. How in the world an artist could capture her personality in her eyes, in so tiny a space is captivating. I've long been a collector of portrait miniatures, and it's time for my collections to be downsized. It's been lovely, though, to get so intimate with them again in photographing them. There is no identification with her, and no artist signed his magnificent work. She carries only the past with her - and the roses. I did finally gold test, and this frame, while brass on the backside, has a generous 14k gold foil-like face on it.
Very good to excellent, I did open this one to inspect it for any damage or loss, and have photographed it open for your review. Her cover glass is flat but nicely polished and seems to be the old original, quite thin glass. Measurements are noted on our photos.
