Artist signed with initials, only, at bottom left, this is a very unique and exceptional miniature painting. Very obviously a personal portrait, it is in gouache on a thin natural wafer, large in size compared to most and very likely late 1800s. Allegorical pose, she stands beautifully gowned and holding a harp. It could as well be a century earlier, but I think I'm right. Stunning work of art, truly! Framed in a magnificent French dore bronze wreath-top frame, as well, heavy and valuable in its own right. The cover glass is flat, and all parts remain without flaw. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. No damage to the painting, no cracks to the wafer upon which she is so elegantly painted. Excellent antique French dore bronze frame with hanging loop. I can point out the over-sized wafer is supported against shrinkage damage or warping by being adhered to a think panel of wood. A good idea, since these wafers in larger size like this tend to want to curl to the natural form from which it was sawn. I've taken her out of frame, there is no warp. I have noted measurements on photos, and enlarged her for your appreciation. I can't tell you who this artist is (red initials bottom left of photos) but we both can agree the artist was a Master! RARE large 'miniature'. I've had her for decades. A personal favorite from my own collection.
