The special artistry of kiln-fired enamel as central focus and same for outer border, this 14k gold double locket is both beautiful and perfect to wear. Beautifully crafted, I'd say Napoleon III era, and with a smooth fitting double locket hinged interior, one glass door and the other side with a lift-out frame, no glass, it's ready for your own photo and memento (likely had plaited or arranged hair art on one side. The black enamel suggests it may have been a mourning jewelry item. I have acid-tested the gold and it didn't test at 18k but did at 14k, and I don't have fresh acid to affirm higher but by date I would say it is likely higher than 14k. Victorian jewelry was often 15 or 16k instead. In any case, difficult to separate the plaque from the 9.2 gram total weight. Full measurements noted on our photos.
Very good to excellent condition, with no flaws notable on the gold locket, gold bale, nor the more fragile kiln-fired enamel. From my longtime collections, and I typically bought the very best.
