Lovely antique Victorian era Black Forest hand carved 14 5/8" wide jardiniere or plant box, rough lumber look with original inner tin liner and gutta percha figural plaque featuring two winged Cupid, angel, cherub or putti! These make wonderful centerpieces, filled with fresh or dried flowers as shown in the images and exactly how we're currently displaying this one. Originally meant as plant boxes, they often times lose their inner liners but this one is intact though not completely waterproof so you'll want to line it with plastic if using for plants or as a wine or champagne cooler. Lovely!
Good to very good condition. We're pretty sure that the gutta percha plaque is original but can't be certain. We have had Black Forest pieces with gutta percha accents in the past. There are a few flaws to note with the box itself. The inner tin liner is intact and really in great shape other than the splits at an edge seam or two so it's not going to be water tight. There would have been feet extending below the bottom of the box from the side board carvings but they've been chipped off or cut down so it sits flat. The upright portion of the left side has a repaired break and there are a few chips here and there. See pictures for all measurements.
