Fantastic, large antique French Victorian or Napoleon III era 10.5" tall gilt bronze or brass cross with Holy water font base, ornate engraved or machined decoration and framing a hand painted portrait of Jesus Christ on a 4 3/4" convex porcelain plaque: thorn crown and eyes cast toward heaven! Exceptional! We think it's French but could be another European country, Germany perhaps. The back of the porcelain has impressed markings that appear to be "15 E". A wonderful "miniature" portrait set into this wall hanging Holy water font, whether it's the artistry or religious aspects that appeal to you, don't miss it.
Very good condition. I see no damage whatsoever. When I first saw it, I assumed this one would originally have been mounted to a similarly shaped marble or alabaster plaque but no, there are no signs of missing fittings and the hang ring is flush so this is exactly how it was when made.
