Elegant antique French Christofle hallmarked silver plate skewer or "Hatelet" pair with ornate pierced or reticulated floral & acanthus handles/ends and both in wonderful condtiion! One of two 2pc sets that we're adding this week, both silverplate and both French, I believe, though the hallmarks on the other set are a bit mysterious. A hâtelet is an ornamental metal skewer used in classic French cuisine and table service, traditionally made of silver or silver plate. It was/is used to secure or decorate elaborate roasts, pâtés, and especially grand presentation dishes in 18th to 19th century French dining. Typical features include long decorative skewer or pick, often topped with a finial, crest, animal, or fleur-de-lis motif, used both practically and decoratively and associated with haute cuisine and formal service à la française. They’re collectible today as antique French silverware items and are as elegant as can be.
Very good to excellent condition. The French always used a thicker plating in their sp wares so they've often fared much better over the years than thinner American, etc. plated pieces. As is the case here, likely a bit of scuffing but, as you can see, both in fabulous shape. See pictures for all measurements.
