From c.1750 and earlier, portraits were mostly profiles. It seemed a regal attribute or a sign of stature. From this young woman's era, c.1800-1815, Napoleonic era, it was quite a bit more unusual to have your portrait in profile. She has a beautiful profile, and perhaps she was exceptionally pleased with her braided hair pulled up into a thick bun, or her spit curls framing her pretty face. Beautifully preserved, the wafer does not have a signature of the artist. Nice frame and the original convex cover glass and brass mat are fully intact, clean. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. A young woman in Empire gown, Napoleon era. I really see no flaws to note, a little wear to the frame, but beautifully preserved throughout.
