Charming antique French 1870s Grand Tour style "Cherbourg" souvenir 12" tall carte d'visite style picture frame PAIR, palette or easel style with polished brass frames including sailboats in mild bas relief and artist or foundry signatures! A lovely pair here, just in from France and delightful in every way. Grand Tour era souvenirs of Cherbourg, a port city in the northwest of France. Cherbourg is protected by Cherbourg Harbor, between La Hague and Val de Saire, and the city has been a strategic position over the centuries, disputed between the English and French. Cited as one of the "keys to the kingdom" by Vauban, it became, by colossal maritime development work, a first-rate military port under the leadership of Napoleon I, and holds an arsenal of the French Navy. A stopping point for prestigious transatlantic liners in the first half of the 20th century, Cherbourg was the primary goal of US troops during the invasion of Normandy in 1944. Wonderful, don't miss them!
Very good condition. We did replace the glass panels, held on the back by clips. No notable damage or repairs. See pictures for all measurements.
