A stunningly beautiful desk set, 3 pieces in excellent condition throughout, these are works of art, really. Not only the silver vermeil work, but the engraved blade and engraved handles in a manner known as niello. We've found several sets from this era (c.1780-1820) still in their presentation box, and with one more desk tool, a scraper (eraser). This set misses that piece and has survived without the box. They appear to have never been put to use. Heavy in the hand, the wax seal is engraved with an overlapping A and B (I think). Measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, this is a truly elegant and perfectly preserved set. I do not find any flaws to note apart from a very slight age to the engravings. Certainly they have been treasured, likely protected in their original box, but perhaps the box was damaged. I found these in France. We do have several similar era writer's sets still in their original boxes - search those out if you want a complete 200+ year old set (sold separately).
