Superbly crafted French gaming box, early 1800s and in fine condition for age. The superb burled wood box has an interior of lemon wood, a fitting that lifts out as you see, and 2 compartments for playing cards. Ecarte worked in fine pique of cut steel, typical of Palais Royal boxes dating earliest 1800s (see our final image, shown with same period Palais Royal sewing box from same estate). Measurements are noted on our photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, it has no chips, no cracks nor breaks, and the cut steel pique is entirely in place and clean and beautiful. The wood used is an elegant contrast of burled walnut (I believe) outside and lemon wood interior.
