Such a darling hand painted portrait miniature of a beautiful little girl, c.1880-1910, signed by the artist. Or is it a boy? Earlier, small children of this young age were dressed rather unisex for diaper handling, and their hair not cut short (for boys) until they were "in their knickers", or fully potty trained. In those early years the hair parted in the middle told you she was a girl, and boys hair was always parted at the side. It is quite reasonable to consider this is a beautiful little boy of 3-4 years old. The artist has signed the painting, and the influence of the Impressionists is very evident in the manner of the charming painting. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the light wood outer frame is beautifully preserved, too, a beautiful grain. The painting is on a wafer a bit squared on 3 sides and backed to help it fit its frame, which is obviously the original. One can see a tiny bit of that backing at the bottom of the aperture, but disappears into the frame, not distracting. No warp at all, and the original convex cover glass is in place.
