Fabulous antique French "Servan" marked gilt embossed leather 2-tier jewelry box with engraved top including two cherub or putti figural medallions, fold-out compartments and lower space with pocket watch fitting and all in wonderful condition! The inside of the lid has a gold embossed or stamped maker or retailer label reading "Maison Fondee en 1786, Servan, Joaillier - Orfevre, Bordeaux". I just love these old gilt embossed leather pieces, this one quite unique with the metal top panel & oval medallions. Working lock & key, the lid opens and front of the box folds down to release the compartments and allow access to the space below. A marvelous decorative accent, this one just draws the eye to it!
Very good condition. Some exterior scuffs and imperfections, all visible in the images. As noted, working lock & old skeleton key. The interior olive colored silk lid portion, and the inner bases of each top fold-out compartment are/were a bit rough but I just had to leave the lid and secured it as good as possible given its condition (though did replace the compartments with a tan or cream moire type fabric). See images for all measurements.
