Absolutely spectacular & rare antique French Louis-Philippe to Napoleon III era Boulle 12" writer's box or inkstand, an exquisite array of figural brass & natural shell inlays, Pan or Bacchus heavy solid gilt bronze feet & accenting! One of two fabulous old boulle writing or inkwell pieces that we currently have available, browse our shop some though to see several others including pocket watch boxes, mantel clocks and more. Beautiful, wouldn't you say! Also unique is the extent of the brass overlay, nearly a veneer covering the entire serpentine shaped piece with ornate scrolling boulle inlays on the sides, including figures hidden in the convex pen tray and all in wonderful condition! Bacchus or Pan figures in the thick, heavy gilded bronze ormolu feet. Gilded trim around the top & bottom, an inkwell in the left side covered compartment and the original boar bristle pen or quill brush in the other. A stunning, museum quality piece and one of the most impressive that we've had in some time, don't miss it!
Very good condition. Some losses here and there and a few lifting spots but in overall fine shape, age considered. The inkwell is of the same period, thick & heavy wheel cut crystal or glass but it's not original to the stand. See pictures for measurements.
