A hunter and dog, figures of a Victorian needlepoint tapestry, child's sampler featuring The Muslim (Mohamud Abdul Karim, "The Munshi", in service to Queen Victoria. Were it not for the turban, one might think it is John Brown, dear friend to Queen Victoria. The needlework has been mounted on a 14 1/2" x 17 1/2" card backing and has been framed as wall art. The large signature worked into stitches seems very obviously that of a child - her sampler project as she learns a variety of needlework stitches. it is primarily done in wool yarns and needlepoint stitches. Heavy, supple, it seems it could be removed from the card backing and worked up into a wonderful pillow top, but we have not tried to remove it to be certain.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Wonderful palette and variation in needlepoint stitches, and of course the theme is so appealing and perfect for Victorian accent. Rare to find dogs, hounds, as well. Large in size and ready for it's next home and your project. Found in London.
