A favorite theme we see carried out in fine works of art in bronze and painting from the Animalier movement, mid-1800, this exquisitely crafted fox with its kit or pup is entirely hand carved in wood, surrounded by foliage. The attention to detail and the fine craftsmanship are fabulous. The chest is an upright miniature cabinet - WONDERFUL as a furniture piece for a special doll, say your favorite BRU or other antique doll, and is made like a miniature chest of drawers. The front door with foliate medallion including what appears to be a satchel perhaps, surrounded by acorns & oak leaves. All four original interior drawers are intact, also with carved decoration. Great box, rare and wonderful hunt themed figures!
Very good to excellent condition, as you can see. The mother fox's snout is a later restoration but I can't tell if it's carved wood or a wood filler of sorts, she does appear to have black metal or glass bead eyes though. Also a chipped rear side ear and leaf tip here and there. It appears that this one may have had a darker stain applied over the original, a bit more "dark" Victorian look but worth noting. Superb! The lock works fine and the key shown and included works. See images for all measurments
