Well, you know I love the old carved wood panels. We've been offering them for years and have built them into our own cabinetry, made cabinet fronts of them, and so its' no surprise I suppose that I would bring you this one that is housed in a wonderful antique frame as the art it truly is. A deep bas relief carving of acanthus fronds, a shield-like cartouche. The old carved wood was probably a panel in the wall of a chateau, or it might have been a cabinet door in a large old antique furniture piece. It is 21" x 17.5" without the frame. I bought it in France with this antique frame, which brings the measurement to 27" x 23" and it's 2" thick, as is the old wood frame. A beautiful piece to hang in a home filled with eclectic treasures, to modern or to antique, really.

Good to very good condition for age and type. There is an old restored split you can see both from the front and back, so that's the issue to consider. There are a few old wood worm holes visible but no rot nor mushiness anywhere, so the infestation was minimal and provides jut the amount of tiny holes we kind of like to see in the old French pieces (and which modern furniture maker fake for the look). It is an old one, early 1800s, and is nicely salvaged as you see it. The frame is much later, possibly as late as c.1900. Or you can separate it from the old frame and use it in your cabinetry, use the frame for something else, too. Both are valuable antiques. Together, they're quite heavy. Solid old hardwoods, both. There are some small rough spots on the frame, typical of the age but nothing serious as you can see in our photos.
