Found in France, this large hand carved wood pediment, or fronton, top panel for a doorway, a frame or mirror, to to fashion into part of a headboard, whatever project you can conceive of, really.  So many possibilities for this gesso and gilded architectural fragment. Shell and cornucopia, florals and rocaille, elegant in design, carving, finish and condition - and SO French. Full measurements noted on our photos.

Very good to excellent for age and type. This is a 19th century architectural detail, created with 3 boards of wood (see seams from backside, one of which can also be seen from the front side). No chips or breaks. A rub or two (top of shell, primarily) which allows one to see the underlying layer of plaster/gesso. The gold is very bright, almost looks like the old lemon-gilt process.  Imagine it as the top of a long dressing room or hall mirror. Those 2 angled mounting boards on back can be removed or left in place but sawed even with the bottom, should you wish to just display on a wall or above a doorway.
