I love customs kitchen cabinetry building in these elegant antique carved panels as cabinet doors, decorative fronts, or even hung as wall art. Some of our customers have used the carved doors on recessed wine cabinetry, or which open to a bar - fabulous idea! Likewise, elevates bathroom cabinetry. I can't tell you how many sets of hand carved panels we've imported from France and which now grace opulently personal homes. When parts of a large furniture piece are damaged, what a wonderful 'save', repurposing the most beautiful sections as salvage. Full measurements noted on the photos. I'd date this pair to c.1880s, give or take 10 years. No, we don't think it's Black Forest - likely French or possibly Italian carved, but our only category for carved wood is headed "Black Forest".

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. You can see they are door panels which have been removed from an outer frame (or wall paneling, same). Elegant carvings with a decidedly Neo-Renaissance feel to the imagery. The addition of an unfurled scroll is particularly interesting. There are no chips or breaks to the carving, nor moulding trim. The joint of the milled boards making the backing panel on one panel can be seen (often happens as woods shrink slightly with age). I can see it slightly on front or face of that one door, and I've set in a detail photo so you can evaluate it. Not much - perhaps I will get Rick to push wood glue into the separation and set his cabinetry clamps to it overnight. But, I want you to see that it is there at listing time. Minimal - really beautiful old pair, 24" tall, 17 3/8" wide and 2" at deepest point with about a 3/8" back board.
