An exceptionally fine c.1890-1910 hand carved jewelry chest, box, from the Black Forest carvers of Switzerland. The pair of crested birds up top are superb anatomical studies, both, and remain in such fine condition throughout. The added width at widest point with legs makes this a large 9.75". Standing tall, too, at 9.5" tall. Beautifully ornamented throughout. The interior of this one is 7" width, 6.75" front to back, and 2 3/8" depth to the bottom. There is an additional 3/8" recess in lid that will increase depth, closed.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. Has a nice interior that is all the old original royal blue silk satin. Very light age and marks here or there but suitable for use and no odors or stains. There is a working lock but we do not have a working key at listing time. If we can add one from our stashes we will do so and will annotate the listing and perhaps up our price a bit. One leg has a little nibble (see images) and there are just a very few woodworm holes from ages ago. Nothing active and not much for age. Measurements in full are noted on the photos.
