Fine antique Napoleon III or Victorian era French hand carved solid walnut (?) 18 7/8" x 15 1/4" cabinet or furniture door panel PAIR, now fabulous wall hanging decorative plaques with ornate sinuous vines, foliage and original mounting hardware reticulated escutcheons and working lock with two keys! Wouldn't these look lovely with custom made gilt wood frames, or simply hung as is really! We've offered many old Black Forest hunt themed wall plaques over the years, these definitely French in style and are actually complete cabinet or furniture doors. Each here with the same expertly carved sinuous leaves, vines and acanthus. Both framed in 1 1/8" thick heavy, solid old European walnut we think judging from the grain and finish (they weigh just over 12 lbs (5.4 kg) together! The inner panels, with foliate carvings, can be removed from the thick oak outer frame if so desired, framed and displayed but they'd also make great additions to a custom piece of furniture or cabinetry OR, simply hung & displayed as they are. A wonderful large pair, don't miss them!
Very good to excellent condition. Possibly a small nip to two but, as you can see, the carvings are in superb condition! Exceptional really with a beautiful, warm aged finish or patina. The pieces are in heavy, solid hardwood and weigh just over 12 lbs combined. See pictures for all measurements.
