RARE! A stunningly fine and well-kept precision jeweler's scale made and sold by De Grave, Short & Tanner, 59 St. Martin Le Grand, London, England, early 1800s, scale for diamonds. The box is spectacular with burl wood perfectly designed and executed with canted corners and delicately beveled upper rim. Fitted within for a superb precision scale for diamond trade, primarily. With an intaglio print in inner lid to "Calculate the value and weight of diamonds".  Minuscule weights in one compartment, along with larger weights one might use for gold jewelry as well as large diamonds. Only 1 is missing, and the scale is complete as you see it, folds and nests into silk velvet lined compartments.  Such an elegant jewelry display set! Dates early 1800s. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, remarkably unscathed, the finest we've seen in decades of sourcing antiques. A single weight missing from a set that ranges to incredibly small and light ones (many in one compartment, hinged wood cover). Lots of photos so you can see how beautifully crafted this truly is. I found it in France.
