A surprisingly appealing pair, oversized for face screens, and truly works of art, these are painted in watercolor, not printed, and deserve to be hung on wall as artworks. Can you see them flanking a fabulous French framed mirror above your mantel. In one photo at end, you see them shown with a more typical sized pair of face screens that are embroidered - note the comparative size. I've collected these for decades, have never seen such a large set. They're over 21" tall, over 11" wide. The artist has made charming portrait miniatures of the scenes, but I see no signature on either one. Heavy card both front and back, wood handles, full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent for age and type, these would be early to mid-1800s, but show gentle age, particularly for paintings on card. Some darkening, an area that is either clouds or perhaps damp and wiped. They are watercolors. I can see a few small holes. We've photographed them each and enlarged for your inspection. Display beautifully and the lathe-turned wood handles are firmly mounted. Frame or not, they deserve to be wall-hung as art.
