Magnificent, large, complete writer's necessaire or lap desk, slope, the lift-out tray holds all of the original tools, still in their fittings. A top quality c.1800 - 1810 set, mother of pearl is lustrous and beautifully trimmed in dore bronze French Empire aesthetic trim and silver shields. There are 2 separate sceau, was seals, each with a crown in the motif, designating a Royal as first owner. Both inkwells remain, seem like early Baccarat, and both retain their caps. The hinged lid has the original mirror, and hinged writing surface lid retains the original claret red leather writing surface. Stunning burl wood construction and hardware, a working lock retains working key. All pieces in the chest are original to it. Even the silk pad remains. Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I can note 4 small flaws: some veneer on the box's top have slightly bubbled, visible in our photos; one side of scissors handle has a chip in the mother of pearl at handle mount; the small tool that is a mother of pearl bookmark is missing the small round magnifying glass which seems to have been its likely initial top; and lastly, the pen is missing part of handle and needs a nib. No other flaws.
