A superb antique portrait in miniature, gouache or watercolor on card or heavy paper, or possibly on natural wafer - I have not taken her out. The painting is superb! In the Pre-Raphaelite tradition, probably done mid-1800s. Very much in the style of Alma-Tadema, or Rosetti, others of that movement. I would place it mid to later 1800s, and while I do not find a signature visible in aperture, it surely is done by an accomplished artist. I did not open the backing on this painting to see if there are notations on back or perhaps signature on the rim that is covered by the frame, which sometimes is the case. Large for miniatures, the outer measurement is 5.5" x 4.5" (oval).
Very good to excellent. There is a convex original cover glass protecting her, and the painting and glass and frame present in excellent condition for age and type. It is an original painting, not a print, and one can see this in person, see the strokes and variations in the surface of painting. A fine and rather unique one, this! Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do!
