From the Swiss Black Forest carvers, a 19th century cigar cabinet survives in fine form, missing a key to the working lock which remains, a leaf tip, and a portion of one wing. All 5 original and undamaged cigar trays are there, ready to hold and serve up to 50 cigars. Good sized at 11.5" x 8" at base, it rises on bun feet, with the carving up top to a height of 10.5".
Condition: Remarkably free of damage for age and type. The birds up top are beautifully carved Animalier era sculptures, and the slender beaks and long tails, legs are without loss or damage. The way it's carved, it looks complete until you look very closely to notice the front wing of the top bird has been broken off. There is also a chipped tip on a long leaf behind the figures. The carved patterning around perimeter of the top is beautiful, as are the unique carved swags that drape the doors in front and the box's sides are complete and quite beautiful - unusual for these old carved boxes.
