This is a 19th century French woven tapestry, huge and a wall hanging of superb design and condition. It ha wonderful coloration, only slightly muted over time (see image of backside yarns for original colors. With a panel this large, I've actually photographed it lying on a huge linen sheet from 2 floors up. It is pulled a little by its woven border, and slightly off-rectangle - it's even, but it's difficult to get an accurate dimensional shot of it. The panel should probably be put on a wood stretcher for best hanging display, though I realize some will be fine with slight wrinkle upper right end. The slight variation in color is explained by some photos being taken outside in full sunlight, and the others (details) being taken inside on a cloudy day. Your lighting will pull to either coloration. It is HUGE! The final panel shows it with large chair seat covers and backs, and some pillows/cushions I have on my sofa at home, just to give you a sense of its size. Beautiful old loom work, see the details. Definitely old, the hooks are the old originals and are about 1 inch in height, a ver unusual old hardware. It has no lining so you can see the weaving from the backside, also.
Very good to excellent condition, dating to Napoleon III era, to as late as perhaps 1890s. IT is not a 1700s tapestry, but it certainly has the look and the fine quality, and no restorations, repairs, holes nor damage to note. The outer border is woven, and it adds 2.5" width, frames in the opulent old tapestry beautifully. All you need is to arrange a bracket and hang and enjoy. See note above re possible need to put it onto wood stretcher for perfectly rectangular hanging/view. This is from my personal collection, decades in the making. I don't buy any that are musty. The light natural scent of fine wool is all the surprise you'd want. That and a stunning wall panel. A decorator's dream! Measurements are also noted on the photos.
