Exquisite and tiny, his face is only 1/2", and the detail is fascinating! This is a mid-1700s gem portrait miniature, very small and yet captures so much fine detail and preserves an image of this gentleman who lived nearly 3 centuries ago. From the Louis XV era, likely a courtier, I purchased this long ago along with the woman shown in the final image (same artist, both tiny), which is offered separately. I have acid-tested that front facing of the frame, and it tested 14k. Had I realized it, I would have polished it ahead of photos, but I hadn't thought it was until I tested the woman and it is 24k gold (again, sold separately). A notation in French on back side says it is the uncle of "my" mother - itself likely written in earliest 1800s. This one is very old, has no damage to the painting at all.
Very good to excellent condition, no chips, no cracks, no loss but also no signature. I thought there might be one, the work is so tiny and exceptional. Photos show him greatly enlarged, but keep in mind his face is only 1/2" from chin to hairline. The miniaturists fascinate me, always! Full measurements noted on the photos.
