This is such a beautiful and elegant holy font. Open work heavy brass cross, a bit Gothic with its shape and finial bottom, and engraved garlands. A 2" font mounted at the base of the cross, and a hand painted oil painting on convex porcelain plaque, Jesus in portrait miniature at the transept center. The painting is beautifully done though we don't have any signature. Photos show it from all views, front and back. We've had one or two through the decades, similarly done but mounted on a backing of alabaster or onyx and metal. I don't see any points for connection of this one so perhaps it was, as it remains, a solitary openwork cross. It is 11 1/4" tall and 7 1/8" wide, extends from wall 2".
Very good to excellent condition throughout. The portrait is pristine, stunningly beautiful - oil painting on convex porcelain plaque which has sustained no damage at all. The cross is equally fine, shows a light patina of age, is engraved throughout. Font is intact and has obviously held holy water, is ready to again, or to just display as the fine art it is.
