A beautiful old 19th century table service chest for 48 cigars on 4 pull-our trays, this is from the Napoleon III era, (c.1850-70) when cabinetry makers made fitted boxes, caskets, for all manner of use in France. Certainly, yes, they were made long before and slightly after, but there's a look to those of the Napoleon III era's commerce. Boulle cartouche, contrasting wood veneers with stringing, elegant hardwoods. This one is in nice form, complete, and still has the working lock with original key, which is quite rare. Full measurements can be found on the photos, but it's good-sized at a hair under 10" wide.

Very good condition for age and type. There are no serious flaws at all, but I'll point out that it is very slightly off-flush at front when closed. If a warp, it's very slight, as the old original lock still engages and the key locks it just fine. Very slight roughness along the ebony edging at back of the chest, slight surface imperfections - not much at all. All 4 trays remain as you can see, wood dividers rather than incised shapes into which the cigars are neatly placed. A wonderful old one!
