Napoleonic era military officer in full dress uniform, gold bullion trim, a medal on his chest, and holding a bi-corn hat. With the cropped hair of the era, he is handsome, dashing, and now more than 230 years old. There is no identification with him. I'm unsure what the medal signifies, but I know records are kept of all medals. I should spend a year or two learning military uniforms, insignia, medals. Alas, I will depend upon you to determine his, and to email me if you would so we'll have accurate information. The painting is unsigned, but superb! An elongated oval measuring 3" x 2" set into a fine burled wood panel, edged in a contrasting hardwood, remains in pristine sealed condition. Cover glass is very slightly convex, the old original, and our photos were taken through it, resulting in slight distortion and a little glare. This one is magnificent. When I can enlarge a painting to this extent and retain it's cohesiveness overall, and you consider his face is just 1", it's just such a rare treasure to see.
