"á lá girafe" - In her time, this woman was simply fabulous! Height of fashion in dress, jewelry and hairstyle. Bold in her pose, she knew she was in top form, didn't she. She would have sat for the artist in early 1830s, likely Paris. She is still in her original frame, under original convex cover glass, and is still a head-turner. The wafer is 3.5" x 3" oval, her face in this amazing painting is only 1" from chin to hairline. Imagine capturing the tiny detail of her jewelry, her collar, those ribbons. No signature, though, and no ID on the socialite with the blue blue eyes. Measurements in full are on the photos.
Very good condition for age and type. The wafer is not perfect, though it displays beautifully (sorry for the glares of our photo lights - she really is dramatic in her frame). Out of frame, I can see there is a nip to upper left of the oval, about at the 10-11 o'clock position, and also, there is some small waviness in a warp to lower left quadrant which has given her a very tight hairline about 1.25" in on a slight diagonal which ends before her neckline. Seen primarily from angle view, and you won't see that there is any warp to it unless you remove her - always a fragile job. I've thoroughly cleaned her convex cover glass, which reveals her perfectly now. Don't you wonder who she was and wish to know her story? Louis-Philippe era.
